Some things that I have learned from working in an office in the short time that I have worked there:
- Asking someone for help or clarification is really not as bad as it seems.
- Don't take offense when co-workers call you "the kid" when they think you can't hear them.
- People that work in offices are not robots. And even if they are, I have yet to witness them plugging themselves into a wall outlet or taking over the world, so it's fine with me.
- Office bathrooms are super clean. Always.
- When machines stop and tell you that there has been a "Technical Error," what they're really trying to say is, "I very much enjoy making you look like you cannot do your job correctly. Furthermore, this error was entirely my fault and you did nothing wrong whatsoever. I am simply jealous that you, the human, are far more intellectually superior than I, a mere machine."
- Looking like you're busy when you're actually just waiting for more work to do is incredibly difficult, but I'm getting better at it. I'm getting better at finding more work to do, too.
- Even when it's ten degrees outside, it's literally about ninety in that little room with all the copiers. Especially on Tuesdays. Oh, how I love Tuesdays.
- You think you dislike the smell of making fresh copies from that one time you did it a few months ago. But no, I promise you, two hours of the smell every single day will induce Stockholm syndrome.
- Listening to trashy rap music on z100 or 107.5 makes my experience driving around for work so much more interesting, and really feeds the mood. Now, every time I hear literally any rap song, I think about driving to the post office. Joy.
- No matter how much I deny ever even wanting a job (not true), I'm really grateful that I have one. Someday I might even have enough money for one semester of college, if I don't spend a dime for the next eight months. It's a beautiful thing.
Tonight is one of those nights where I actually feel like going to bed before one thirty in the morning for once. I think I'll go make myself an orange juice / 7-Up concoction for the third time today, find a movie to watch, and fall asleep watching it on the couch :) that sounds lovely.
