End of week 2 of scouts, week 3 at camp. Sitting on the beach with Tim, Connor and Cody. It's kinda warm but too windy for frisbee. I was gonna take a nap because I'm exhausted times ten to the max, but I don't want to get my bed dirty and I'm too lazy to shower... This past week of scouts was good! Teaching tracking was lame but my troop was awesome so that made it worth it. Last week I taught oceanography, which kinda sucked, too... but then I got voted in the lake AND got inspirational staff award! So I felt particularly awesome. There are some awesome people working here, too. Working with Braden is really fun! The other people working in nature are craaaazy... The nature center is always freezing cold and dead boring so of course I'm not a huge fan of working there. Oh, I'm back in my cabin now because Tim left with John Ogle and Cody Hays to go into town. I don't really love going into town (Tillamook) because there's nothing to do and you just end up running into everyone from camp anyways, which is what you're trying to get away from. So my cabin turned out to be pretty gross. It has this loft that we don't use, and nearly every night I get woken up by rats running around and making all sorts of noise up there. I've only seen one mouse, but there are HUGE black ants all over the place. The chick that I live with is literally 30 and married, so that's kinda weird.
And there you have it. Haha apparently that's all I had on my mind that day. To update the subsequent six weeks of the summer...Working in nature wasn't thaaaaat bad. It was crazy cold, but I tried to take my tracking class out of the area as much as possible, to places around camp that were warmer. I ended up having the most kids out of any of the merit badges at camp, an average of about 140 kids every week. My maximum was 152, which was a crazy amount of kids but sooooo much fun. I had a lot of fun teaching, and the kids always loved the class. Braden and I (director and assistant director) had some speed bumps to manage throughout the summer, but things went smoothly otherwise. Every Wednesday I led the Marine Gardens Hike at six o'clock AM (yes... six in the morning!), which was usually about 150 people exploring tide pools and stuff. Once we saw a real, live octopus! And there was a seal carcass hanging out there all summer, too. All in all, the nature center was good to me this summer.
PROOF OF MY SUMMER!
A typical sunset early in the summer.
The average amount of starfish you might find on a rock at the tide pools at six AM on a Wednesday morning.
One Saturday, I was pleasantly awoken from a nap by Tim, John and Cody blasting Kid Cudi from my front lawn. One of the best Saturdays this summer, for sure.
The octopus!
A beeeeeautiful morning for the Marine Gardens Hike. One of the best.
The mess on my face is charcoal from the Tuesday night beach party bonfire. I blame Jake, and I fully intend to get him back one last time.
Alright, well, I'm sorry there aren't more pictures, but those are the only ones that I took (that are worth looking at) because, unfortunately, I didn't bring a camera to camp (just my phone). I'm waiting for the other staff to post their pictures to facebook, and then I might have some better ones to post on here! Anyways, sorry this was so long. It wasn't even fully encompassing (there are tons more stories I can tell!) but that would take too long, and I think I'll just save those for a random day when I don't have anything better to write. My future children need to hear these stories somehow! I'll update on the college thing some other time, but for now, I'm exhausted from so much blogging. Time to sleep, au revoir!
