So Eleanor just posted a list of observations she's made since she's been in Utah / college, and I loved it, so I'm going to copy-cat her.
.) I hate driving here (at least, I'm not used to it) because nearly every single left-turn is one of those yield to traffic left-turns. It's the weirdest, and I don't like it.
.) In the summer in Utah, it's hot even when it rains. How does that even work?
.) Similarly, the rain just makes things (like cars) dirtier. Again, how does that even work? People say it's pollution, and it's worse in Logan because we're in a valley? I don't know.
.) The roads are weird here. They're extra wide, and generally really bumpy because of that whole freezing/expanding/cracks thing whatever that they have to fix, and let me tell you. The highway is a terrifying place in Utah.
.) Water tastes terrible here. Just a simple fact.
.) My roommates are still awesome. But they all went home for labor day weekend sooooo I have the apartment to myself all weekend. You'd think it was awesome, but it's really just lame. Needless to say, the place is a mess. The funny part is that they're my only friends here plus one guy, Josh. Haha hmm.
.) I forgot to go to church yesterday (rather, slept in), but it's not a huge deal because there were probably like five people there total. There are like ten cars in the parking lot outside my building right now because eeeeveryone went home for labor day weekend. It's great.
.) Fun facts: The only places I've driven while I've been here are the grocery store, and Goodwill. Everywhere else, I walk. I want reusable grocery bags. I buy local. I wear Toms. I spend the majority of my time in the Natural Resources building on campus. I'm reading a book about the climate change debate. I drive a Subaru Outback with a dream catcher hanging off the rear-view mirror. I'm currently wearing a sweatshirt that I got for free at a thrift store. Don't judge me!
.) Observation: you overestimate how long it takes to cross a street until you're a college student and you j-walk everywhere.
.) I miss: Noah's bagels, knowing at least 20 people within 100 miles, "hoodie season" (aka winters in Portland), being able to not put away my laundry and get away with it because there aren't people in my room constantly, having a TV that works and has something other than Grey's Anatomy, not having to make all my meals (I mean quesadillas 24/7 is great, but...), the humidity of Portland (I didn't think I would miss it, either), and being able to drive to Ross without using Doug (my GPS.)
It's... interesting so far. Let's say that.
